Healthy living in house and home is what everybody pursues nowadays, which is of great importance. How to live a healthy life? First of all, we should make sure that our house and home is green without any harmful substances. What are the harmful substances in house and home? Here are 4 major common things that call for attention.
1. Carpets
Carpets are used widely in our houses, especially in bedrooms and living room. But do you know carpets are bad for our health? The glue and dyestuff applied in carpets will give off VOC (volatile organic compound). If the concentration of VOC is high, it will damage our health. On the other hand, carpets made of man-made fibre generally contain unstable organic compounds, leading to allergic diseases under long-term exposure. For those who have to use carpets at home, it’s better to select carpets made of natural fibre, such as wool carpets and pure cotton carpets.
2. Bleach Products
We all know that bleach or bleaching powder have side effects. If they’re used too much, they could do great harm to our health. Most bleach products contain one chemical substance called sodium hypochlorite. Featured with strong corrosivity, the sodium hypochlorite could release stimulant poisonous gas, which could damage our lungs and hair if we’re exposed excessively under such environment at home. Therefore, it’s better not to overuse bleach or bleaching powder for cleansing. Moreover, please pay attention to not using bleach products together with household cleaners. That could create a chemical reaction and release chlorine, harming our body.
3. Paint
It’s universally acknowledged that paint is harmful to our health. No matter water paint or oil paint, they might contain poisonous substances like formaldehyde and benzene. In addition, paints contained with lead will do great harm to the children’s health. Such paint shouldn’t be used for home decoration.
4. Air Freshener
To have fresh air at home, more and more people are using air fresheners currently. However, air freshener could release poisonous pollutant - Vinyl glycerol ether and terpene - if they’re overused in narrow spaces with poor ventilation. We could replace the air freshener with fresh flower potting, which is natural, fragrant and could also decorate our house.
Besides what mentioned above, cleansing puff, hair dye and inferior cosmetics are likely to cause serious problems as well. As a result, we should avoid using them as much as possible in our daily life.
